Favorite Designers and Fashion Houses

While my wardrobe consists of a collection of household names (i.e. Coach, Guess, Bebe, H&M, Zara, American Apparel, and Victoria's Secret), there are items that I do covet that are unfortunately out of my reach. At the moment, I will provide a list until I have time to expand on each designer's collection and history.

Vivienne Westwood

Christophe Decarnin for Balmain

I just discovered Christophe Decarnin recently when I stumbled upon a Balmain ad in my February issue of W magazine.

After some research I found that Christophe Decarnin was the actual mastermind behind this spring's collection that originally caught my attention. His signature mark is the military-influenced and shoulder-padded jacket, usually paired with skinny bottoms and a metallic tunic.

BALMAIN
Balmain, the Parisian fashion house made famous by Pierre Balmain, has gone a long way since it's conception.

Most notably, this and last year's spring ready-to-wear collection are modern, edgy, exude the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, and above all are absolutely glamorous.

Balmain is a favorite amongst many celebrities for casual wear and the red carpet.

Hervé Léger

Hervé Léger is another Parisian ready-to-wear favorite. While military influenced pieces are a prominent theme throughout Decarnin's Balmain collections, the signature bandage dress is Hervé Léger's Pièce de résistance.

I absolutely love this bandage dress because of it's sexy yet sophisticated silouhette. In the right lightening this dress looks like it reflects silver and I think it's the perfect shade for spring and summer!

Best Designer for Shoes, Accessories and Bags

MIU MIU

Given my age, I can't help but favor MIU MIU over Prada. Miuccia Prada launched her second line in 1992, fusing sophisticated silhouettes with quirky prints. This spring/summer 2010 campaign stood out from the rest, especially due to the sparrow print that is seen throughout the collection. The best use of this print is on the shoes where it originally caught my attention.

MIU MIU's signature Matelasse leather bags ($1,650) are timeless pieces, especially the Coffer Matelasse Leather Hobo seen below. Although I'm not a fan of flats (I need height!), I do LOVE her Crystal-embellished leather flats ($585) that come in black and brown. I would wear these everywhere. And the best part of them is that they are leather!

I found these items on Net-a-porter.com.

Marc by Marc Jacobs
While many covet the red soled Christian Louboutin heels or a monogrammed Louis Vuitton purse, I have been looking forward to the day I own a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. Although I would not say no to my very own LV or Hermes bag, I'd prefer to own a piece of luxury that I could use everyday.

I skipped right through the Spring/Summer '10 bags and straight to the Winter '10 bags that are a lot more versatile throughout the year. I have selected a few of my favorites from the collection.

I absolutely love the mauve colored bags. Since the Marc by Marc Jacobs bags are comparably priced to Coach bags, I can definitely see myself making a purchase sometime in the future.

3.1 Phillip Lim

While not new in the fashion business, his line 3.1 Phillip Lim is and it's HOT! I love 3.1 Phillip Lim accessories. Last year I fell in love with the leather driving gloves, this year its the optical frames. If done right, his frames are quirky yet sexy. What I especially love about this designer's optical frame collection is the funky color pairing, use of clear plastic, and retro styles.
